# What the server needs

Answers the question: Which server is needed?

## Resources

The server needs:

- 2 cores and 2 GB of memory.
- 20 GB of disk, 40 GB recommended: room for device logs and the map cache.
- Debian 13 on an amd64 or arm64 processor, a physical or virtual server.

## Network

On the network the server needs:

- A domain name pointed at this server.
- Ports 443 and 80 open. Browsers and phones alike reach the server over 443. Port 80 carries the check when the certificate is issued.

## The map

The map is needed to locate a lost device and for the geofence: zones are drawn on it, and the phone's geofence screen shows it. The Wyrd server loads it from our infrastructure over an anonymity network and discloses no identifiers of its own.

Loaded areas stay in a cache on your server, so a single square of terrain is requested only once.

The map file can also be placed on your own server in full. Its path is the `pmtiles_path` setting in the `[map]` section of `/etc/wyrd/wyrd.toml`.
